The Beauty of Open-Back Headphones
Gateway to a new world of listening
Most people have listened to music via speakers and closed-back headphones, which both have their benefits. However, open-back headphones offer a new world of soundscapes, as the exposed driver and free flow of air provide a pure and natural listening experience, offering a new perspective on your favourite tracks.
True Open-Air Sound
Exposed driver for pure, natural airflow
Air movement is the foundation of sound. Controlling the flow of air is at the core of manufacturing headphones. The ATH-ADX3000 open-air design allows unrestricted airflow and eliminates unwanted distortion. The open sound production relies solely on the quality of the driver: each diaphragm movement translates into an instant generation of sound, meaning that frequencies are not artificially produced nor enhanced using acoustic cavities and resonance. This results in the purest sound with the most realistic sound staging and imaging.
Unmatched Comfort
Featherlight and highly breathable
Weighing just 257 grams, these fully open-back headphones virtually disappear when wearing them, offering one of the most natural listening experiences available. The design is particularly suited to long listening sessions, allowing you to completely immerse yourself in the music.
Streamlined and sleek
This lightweight design is achieved by streamlining the construction of the ATH-ADX3000; every component is carefully assembled to complement the minimalistic finish.
60 Years of Constant Innovation
Audio-Technica is on a perpetual quest for pure sound, continually refining our design and manufacturing techniques to achieve the most linear air movement. Our aim is to transmit sound without any distortion within the motion of the diaphragm.
The transducer at the heart of all product development
All Audio-Technica's headphone designs start with a transducer. It is at the core of our product development, and we are one of the only manufacturers in the world that continues to follow this process, from the transducer to the final details of a finished product.
Open-back headphones are fundamentally different than closed-back designs, as the air does not encounter the same resistance as in a closed chamber. Moreover, there is no acoustic chamber to be used to tune or create bass frequencies, so the driver must be carefully developed to generate a full-range signal down to the lowest frequencies. The benefit is a very natural bass with no artificial resonance while maintaining very pure mid and high frequencies.
Speaking about the development of the ADX range, lead engineer HIROMICHI OZAWA said, “Our engineers worked hard to achieve frequencies that are not easy to obtain with natural airflow. Our expertise in driver technology has influenced our approach to openback headphones, enabling us to ensure the diaphragm moves with the purest motion. For example, with the ATH-ADX5000 we developed innovative technology that integrates the driver into the baffle, resulting in an optimal structure to improve airflow and full-range audio reproduction. This technology is also employed in the ATH-ADX3000 headphones.”
Core Mount Technology
Our innovative Core Mount Technology, introduced with our acclaimed ATH-ADX5000 open-air dynamic headphones, directly integrates the driver into the baffle resulting in an optimal position to improve airflow and full-range audio reproduction. This creates an optimum structure, reducing unnecessary sound distortion.
Craftmanship
As with all our hi-fi headphones, the ATH-ADX3000 is handcrafted in our Machida facility by our skilled production team. Each unit is meticulously assembled from components built inhouse, then rigorously tested before leaving the factory. The delicate balance and adjustments are managed by experienced staff who have been perfecting their craft for many years. This manufacturing process is a testament to Japan’s revered craftsmanship tradition.
